Esta tradición llego a América Latina con los españoles y tuvo su propio desarrollo al adoptar con facilidad las tradiciones locales y al ser influenciada por la cultura criolla, de acuerdo con el contexto histórico cultural.
El programa ‘La noche: nocturnos y serenatas’ es una selección de obras que tienen como común denominador su título. El tenor colombiano Alejandro Escobar, Alejandro Escobar —quien ha revelado ser un óptimo interprete del repertorio italiano del siglo XIX, ha ganado varios concursos internacionales de canto y ha presentado más de 40 óperas—, y el pianista Francis Díaz, interpretarán serenatas de varios autores, de varias épocas y en varias lenguas, que reviven una tradición importante que nace en el medioevo y que en las culturas latinoamericanas representa una base importante del repertorio. Durante el programa, en diferentes momentos, se alternará con algunos nocturnos de Frederic Chopin.
