El Curtis Institute of Music tiene como finalidad educar y capacitar a jóvenes talentos musicales de todo el mundo con el objetivo de darles herramientas para transformar sus comunidades a través de la música. Durante más de un siglo esta institución estadounidense ha capacitado a jóvenes músicos de excepcional talento con el objetivo de darles experiencia en presentaciones con intérpretes, compositores y directores de orquesta de primer nivel y motivarlos a explorar el impacto que tiene la música en las comunidades locales.
También se centra en ofrecer una enseñanza musical de calidad excepcional a través de un cuerpo docente que incluye una alta proporción de intérpretes activos, y establece la filosofía de “aprender haciendo”, en la que los estudiantes perfeccionan sus habilidades en más de 200 presentaciones artísticas anuales en las que no solo se hace énfasis en el desempeño en el escenario, sino también en el contacto con la comunidad.
