Khatia Buniatishvili descubrió el piano a sus tres años; a los seis dio su primer concierto, junto a la Orquesta de Cámara de Tbilisi, y a los diez empezó sus presentaciones internacionales. Durante su etapa de formación, Buniatishvili tuvo maestros como Tengiz Amirejibi, en Tbilisi, y Oleg Maisenberg, en Viena. Esos fueron los primeros pasos de la carrera de esta artista, nacida en Georgia en 1987, quién a partir de ese temprano debut empezó a conquistar escenarios como el Carnegie Hall, en Nueva York, en donde debutó en el 2008.
Además de sus colaboraciones artísticas, que la han llevado a trabajar con directores de la talla de Zubin Mehta y Kent Nagano hasta la agrupación británica Coldplay, la artista ha participado también en proyectos humanitarios.
